What Is The Best Brand For A Jumping Saddle?
4 Comments | Posted by Brand McNaut in Brand Management
I may be buying a jumping saddle soon. This saddle will be for STADIUM JUMPING. I was wondering what the best, most comfortable, helpful, not cheap but not excessively expensive saddle brand is. I realize this is an opinion, but I want to hear what brands you all like. Please be thorough in your answer and explain why you like the brand you like. Thanks in advance for answers.

I LOVE Amerigo’s but new they run for about $3500+ so I would try getting one on ebay(I did that, I got a barely used one for half the price). Another brand iv heard is good is pessoa and crosby. I have never sat in one of those but iv heard they are great and last forever. I don’t know how much they cost though…
Hope this helps!

I would suggest that you look at American-Flex saddles. They aren’t a flexible tree saddle or a treeless saddle, they have a solid tree for the rider and flexible panels for the horse. Especially with jumping, where it sounds like you are going to get pretty high, you want a saddle that isn’t going to be painful for your horse when you land. Many rigid tree saddles are bad about this because even with padding they have solid wood attached to their backs. I haven’t personally gotten one yet, still saving, but they look absolutely amazing to ride in (can you say heaven lol) and they look like they would be great for the horse. If they can fit a horse with a 5 inch deep sway back and make it tolerable for him to be ridden, can you imagine the benefits for a jumping horse? Even custom fit saddles in my opinion cannot possibly beat this saddle, because custom fit saddles only perfectly fit your horse at the stand-still whereas these saddle adjust to fit your horse at the stand-still, walk, trot, canter, and through turns. Not to mention they come with these things called saddle sox that slide on the panels and are all you need for a pad. You literally get to just stick your saddle on and do up the girth without having to mess with fixing a pad. While this saddle is about 2k, it can fit any horse from a draft cross to a pony and any variety of conformations. The tree of the saddle is built based on your seat size so it is comfortable for you and the panels are for the horse. This way if you end up getting more than one horse you can use the same saddle instead of having to purchase another one. Not to mention these people give you a 30 day money back guarantee where you get to ride in the saddle you ordered (not a test saddle) for up to 30 days and if you don’t like it you get to send it back for a full refund. It has been my experience that people with those guarantees are pretty darn sure you won’t want to return it. Personally I like the jumper saddle they have because it can be used for jumping, dressage, or cross-country (its the one I’m saving for). They have a website you can go to, all you have to do is type American-Flex into google.

I’m a jumper as well and my saddle is a Stubben (Roxanne S Deluxe with Biomex). It’s a nice saddle- very durable leather, supports your lower leg very nicely, good for your horse…
First off, I highly recommend that you avoid Bates and Pessoa saddles. They’re not well made saddles (the older Pessoa saddles were ok, but the newer ones are horrible!).
I can’t give you reviews on all of them, but most saddles in the $1,000+ price range are good quality saddles- it’s just what you like and what fits your horse.
“Cheaper” brands that are still OK quality **under $1,000**
Collegiate
HDR
Wintec
M. Toulouse **nice saddles, but don’t hold up very well to lots of use. If you only need the saddle for a few years and then upgrade, they’re nice**
Circuit **some people have good luck with them, but I have heard that the dye bleeds**
Saddles $1,000-$3,000
Stubben
Black Country **custom saddles**
Equipe and Vega **these saddles are by Amerigo**
Saddles $3,000-$4,000
Prestige
Amerigo
Bruno Delgrange
County **custom saddles**
Saddles $4,000+
Tad Coffin
Hermes
Stackhouse **custom saddles**
Hope this helps and have fun saddle shopping!
