Why Can’t My Laptop’s Internet Work Through The Modem?

I have a mini laptop, brand new. When I hook it up to my boyfriend’s router (with the CAT 5 cable) it will not allow me to connect to the Internet, however his old as **** Dell laptop will connect just fine. I have tried turning my WiFi off on my laptop and it didn’t work. I’ve also tried setting up a new network and all that jazz and it did nothing! Any suggestions? Thanks.

The router may be blocking by MAC address. You’ll need to find the security setup on the router and add your MAC addresses.
Get MAC addresses:
Run… > enter “cmd” > enter “ipconfig /all”
There should be separate entries for Ethernet and Wireless.
Most routers can be accessed by web browser on a wired connection through IP address 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.2.1.
