Should I Tell My Manager?

I am a brand new Assistant General Manager in a small hotel. There is so much gossip and drama going on in that place that it’s insane. I have made my manager aware of many things that have been told to me in confidence. As the assistant manager, being a fresh face in a negative environment, everyone wants to talk to me…tell me things. Everybody wants to suck me into the drama. I haven’t made friends with anyone and do NOT plan to. However, people are telling me things..things that I know would piss the manager off. She is black. There is a bit of a rasict undertone in the drama. I don’t like it, but this job fell into my lap from heaven when I was desperate! I can’t quit! Do I tell my manager everything I know and be a “loyal” assistant or do I just shut my mouth and keep everything to myself. What is the best approach. I really need good solid advice. I do not have management experience and am taking this job VERY seriously.

What sort of route should I go along to get to work as a Branding Manager?
Was on a coffee talk with my friends, and just kinda lost after the chat. Being a brand designer now, a.k.a graphic designer, my career path is to work towards to the management level in years to come. But holding a diploma in Visual communication (Diploma in graphic design), with 1 year of design experience, what should i continue from here (in degree qualification?) for me to be able to obtain my ideal career (e.g A branding Manager, media buyer)
Would appreciate if experience people from all walks of life to enlighten me.
Thanks! :)

I’m 20 years old & start working at Hollister this week. I feel like my skill set is a lot more advanced than the work I’ll be doing. And not to play the “age/maturity” card, but most of the people I work with are 17 & 18 with no prior job experience.
Which is fine, but I’ve been working retail for the past 3 years & think I’m ready to take on more than a sales associate position. The only management experience I have is being an assistant manager for 7 months at an accessory shop, but I learned a lot.
Anyway, does anyone know what the “requirements” are for a management position at hollister? I love the brand and can see myself with this company for a long time.. As long as I can advance somewhat quickly (like in the next year or so). Do you know about how long it takes to become a manager in training at least? I know it depends, but estimates would help.
How should I go about asking for the chance to take on a management role? (I haven’t even worked my first shift there yet! Lol) thanks!

Help please
My best mate has just got a job with a small consultancy firm and needs to negotiate a salary ASAP. Can anyone advice on this
His experience
He is 35 and has had 10 years academic experience in environmental field. He also has a PhD
For the past year he has been working as a freelance management consultant doing corporate due diligence.
The consultancy
It is a small 12 person consultancy doing thing like: thought leadership, brand and marketing strategy, growth strategy, executive insight, due diliigence etc
There are three levels in the firm: Top- Directors, Middle- Consultant / project managers, Low- freelancers who do the ground research, interview, date gathering etc
His job
He will be middle level consultant / project manager. He will do things like: some sales to bring in projects, meet clients for briefings, project manage, research, analyse data, write up and present results and advise clients amongst other things.
Also because of his experience he has been asked to train people in the firm to develop corporate due diligence and for him to also try and develop an environmental consulting arm in the firm.
Basically with all his experience and his responsibility my three questions are
1) What salary range should he try and get / expect
2) What sort of perks e.g. holiday, bonus, pensions etc should he also try and get / expect
3) Tips and hints for him to negotiate to his advantage
Any advice at all will be gratefully appreciated and I am happy to give more information if necessary.
Thanks everyone
Bintufred
